Packaging list for India
-
A backpack or day pack and carryon suitcase. Unless you are going five-star all the way, you will be happy you can easily carry everything you brought on your back. There are going to be times when the taxi can’t get closer than a 10 minute walk to the train station because of the crowds and you have to get out and walk.
-
Very comfortable sturdy walking shoes. India’s infrastructure is often lacking. The roads and sidewalks are a jagged obstacle course, and there is sometimes an open sewer spilling its gruesome contents across your path. You will want a pair of closed toe shoes.
-
To keep as healthy as possible on the road, take heat-resistant probiotics (one per day), either oil of oregano or GSE (grapefruit seed extract), rehydration salts, tea tree oil and homeopathic remedies for digestion and respiration issues (Indian cities are highly polluted — try to get out of the cities and enjoy some offbeat places in India).
-
Flip-flops. For the beach, in the shower, around your hotel and in other predictable settings. Don’t go barefoot in India.
-
ORS (oral rehydration salts) packets and activated charcoal capsules. If you do happen to get Delhi belly, these will be your best friends. Make sure you stay hydrated – it’s the dehydration that makes you sick.

Deodorant, hair conditioner, tampons, sunscreen, Deet mosquito repellent. I recommend bringing all of these with you as you may not get the quality you’re used to in India.

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR NEXT DESTINATION IN INDIA

Basing on the kind of trip you would like to have, you can select the right travel destination for you. Are you bored of the routine life and so want to take a break? Do you intend to go for a thrilling / adventurous experience? Do you want to enjoy the pristine sea waters at the bay? Are you interested in visiting the historical sites ? Or do you want to go to a serene place far from the maddening crowd? Or do you intend to go for an enjoyment in casinos and heavy shopping? Do you want to go to a pilgrim place as a part of festival occasion? Do you want to enjoy the monsoon in a tropical rain forest?

You can list out many such questions and by answering those questions, you can easily narrow down your selection of a travel destination

There are many important Hindu pilgrim places like world famous brihadeeshwar temple in tanjore, isha yoga centre, world's richest temple padmanabaswami temple and other such important Hindu pilgrim places. You can these places in case you are traveling with elderly people who have a religious bent of mind.

In case of adventurous trips with friends, you have to choose something different. You can visit beautiful caves where you can enjoy trekking and exploring as well. Eco-tourism is gaining its importance these days, so you can choose a place which is an eco-tourism sanctuary and here you can have lots of fun with friends like trekking, boating, bird watching and many more fun-filled and even thrilling activities.

THINGS TO BUY IN INDIA
-
Indian clothes: India is of course famous for gorgeous women’s clothes, from elaborately embroidered pashmina shawls to silk saris, from cotton kurtahs (long, tunic-style shirts) to scarves. Many of these come adorned with hand beading and/or hand embroidery and will make you feel like a princess. You can buy Indian clothes online and just about everything else, or visit Indian clothing stores in person.
-
Jewelry and bling: Indian women love jewelry, and the bigger and more ornate the better. There is an astounding variety of real and costume jewelry — to go with your princess look. Buying jewelry in India is one of the most fun things you can do, from cheap bangles to precious gems. Jaipur is the gem capital of India, but you can find jewelry virtually everywhere.
-
Tea : The champagne of tea, Darjeeling, comes from the hills of North-east India. I recommend the second-flush tea, which has more body, colour, and flavour. My favourite tea is from the state of Assam – this is where the tea industry started in India. It’s very rich, robust, and dark tea. Nilgiri teas, from the Cardamom Hills in Kerala, are good too, though usually used for CTC (cut-tear-curl) tea.
-
Skin care products : Ayurvedic products, such as skin care and herbal remedies. Several commercial brands, such as Biotique, Himalaya and Shahnaz Herbal, are readily available.
-
Arts and crafts : Throughout India, traditional artisans make lovely rugs, furniture, pottery, clothing, textiles, boxes, leather journals, home decor items — usually with unique regional variations which you will discover as you travel around the country.
-
Textiles : India excels at textiles, including cotton, silk, wool, and linen, plus an incredible array of homegrown printing and embroidering techniques. You can find an unending variety of things like block-print bedspreads, appliqué wall hangings, embroidered pillow cases – the list really is endless. At the high end are hand-beaded items that add fantasy and bling to home décor. There’s also khadi, hand-woven fabric, that has its own charm.
